As the Director of Transportation at Hayward, you will lead the development and execution of global logistics strategies for domestic and international transportation along with adherence to trade compliance.  Your strategic vision and expertise will drive efficiency improvements, cost savings, and compliance excellence across our logistics and supply chain operations.  This key leadership role is based in Clemmons, NC, and presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual with a strong background in data-driven logistics optimization and extensive expertise in international trade, including trade compliance.

Responsibilities

 

  • Mentor and inspire a Transportation and Customs team that actualizes our vision. 
  • Lead transportation contracting and rate negotiations for multiple modes including Ocean, Drayage and LTL/TL in partnership with Procurement teams.
  • Accountable for meeting critical KPIs as they relate to safety, capacity planning, service, cost, and regulatory goals to drive efficiency and deliver best-in-class operations.
  • Develop financial and network modeling based on different transportation and sourcing strategies, routes and service providers globally.
  • Ensure assets, resources and supply chain capabilities are in place to support new locations and/or sourcing strategies.
  • Manage on-time performance and analytics for all modes of transportation.
  • Partners cross functionally with Warehousing to balance inbound and outbound volume with expected capacity, avoiding bottlenecks and assessorial charges created by unplanned moves.
  • Be the subject matter leader of Transportation and Customs, aid in educating partners and other leaders to prioritize and secure funding/resources for executing shipping and import/export strategies.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with carriers, service providers, the ports, government officials/agencies and industry experts.
  • Attend trade shows and conferences to represent Hayward's interests and maintain a pulse on the industry.
  • Constantly look for new logistics technologies, innovations and practices, and vendors to help improve efficiencies and reduce delivery time and costs.
  • Shepard the organization through the CTPAT certification process and ensure that the company and its supply chain partners meet their collective obligations to remain compliant.
  • Create enhanced visibility and score carding around all SLAs and cost mitigation and actively work with warehouse locations, vendors and third-party providers to limit exposure.
  • Deliver accurate transportation forecasts to the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) processes.
  • Ensure customs processes and compliance protocols are in place to support sourcing of new categories and/or from additional countries of origin.
  • Develop robust transportation and customs management processes as company grows (short/mid/long term) and the supply chain expansion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, operations management, or related industry is required.
  • Master’s degree in supply chain management, or MBA preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in logistics, transportation, or trade compliance.
  • In depth knowledge of domestic and international transportation
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Project/Negotiation/ Contract management skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proved ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to accomplish objectives as both a team member and team leader.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Ability to generate and work with Excel models while simultaneously implementing new business enterprise systems.
  • Ability to travel 15-25% of the time, nationally or internationally as required.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee normally works in an office environment, but occasionally will be required to work in a manufacturing or distribution facility.
